School & Community Murals
by Taylor Gallegos
Inspire students and turn hallways into landmarks.
Schools are where murals do some of their most important work. A well-placed mural tells students who they are, what they're capable of, and what their community values - every single day. Taylor has created school and community murals across California, working collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and students to develop imagery that reflects the character of each campus. Art as a force for Good, built into the walls.

Every school mural starts with a conversation about the community - what the school values, who the students are, and what the space needs to say. From there I develop concepts collaboratively with administrators and faculty, and where it makes sense, involve students in the process. Digital mockups are created for approval before anything goes on the wall. The goal is always imagery that feels specific to that campus, not generic.
-
Yes - and it's one of my favorite parts of school projects. Student input can range from submitting ideas and themes that inform the concept, to more direct involvement depending on what the school wants. The final painting is always executed professionally, but the ideas behind it can genuinely come from the community it's built for.

Both interior and exterior walls work well. Interior murals are great for hallways, gymnasiums, libraries, cafeterias, and common areas. Exterior murals work best on smooth, primed surfaces with good sun exposure and proper drainage at the base. I'll assess the wall condition during the site visit and recommend the best approach for each location.
-
Yes. I use non-toxic, low-VOC paints for all school projects. Exterior murals are sealed with a UV-protective, weather-resistant topcoat. Indoor murals are finished with a protective coating appropriate for high-traffic environments. Everything is designed to be durable, safe, and low-maintenance for years.
-
Timeline depends on size and complexity. A single wall mural for a hallway or gymnasium typically takes three to seven days. Larger campus installations or multi-wall projects are scoped individually. I work with school administrators to schedule painting during breaks, evenings, or periods that minimize disruption to students and staff.
-
Yes. I understand that school projects often operate within tight budgets and sometimes involve grant funding or community fundraising. I'm happy to work within those parameters and can provide documentation, proposals, or estimates in whatever format your grant or approval process requires.
-
Absolutely. I work with public art programs, neighborhood associations, libraries, parks departments, and community organizations throughout California. If you have a wall and a story your community needs to tell, reach out and let's talk about how to make it happen.
